Toyota Unveils First Cup Spec Build

TORRANCE, Calif., (November 1, 2016)Toyota unveiled the Toyota Motorsport GmbH GT86 CS-Cup Series for the first time at the OEM’s booth at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show.

Built and air-shipped from Germany for SEMA, this car is designed for a one-make series overseas. “We wanted to bring it here to inspire, innovate, and excite,” offered John Myers, National Trucks Vehicle Marketing and Communications Manager at Toyota Motor Sales. “This is a true performance vehicle, built solely for the track.”

The livery pays homage to Toyota’s racing heritage with a cool retro red and white design. The aero package looks awesome, but it also helps the car stick with functional downforce.

The Toyota Motorsport GmbH GT86 CS-Cup Series will be shown alongside the esteemed 2000GT, “Japan’s first supercar.” Only 351 were made and it set several FIA speed and endurance records on the track.

A 2017 Toyota Stock 86—once the Scion FR-S—will also be on display. With its manual transmission, it has even more horsepower, torque, and better handling.

All three of these vehicles—and numerous other Toyota specialty vehicles—can be seen in the Toyota display booth (#24800) in Central Hall and on the Patio Annex of the Las Vegas Convention Center, November 1-4, 2016.
