April 4, 2008 - Cedar Rapids, Iowa – Toyota Financial Services' (TFS), as part of its Making Life Easier for YOUth initiative, announced yesterday that it is providing the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids an inaugural $50,000 contribution to support the Clubs' invaluable after-school programs including academic support, recreational activities and life-skills programs in a safe and supportive environment for under-served youth and their families.
Cedar Rapids is home to one of three TFS Customer Service Centers, whose nearly 600 employees chose to support the local Boys & Girls Clubs with the $50,000 contribution as well as through various volunteer activities.
The Clubs provide after-school programs for 185 youth every day between 6 and 18 years old. Programs include academic support, career enrichment, character and leadership development, health and life-skills, the arts, sports and fitness and family support resources. In a safe, culturally sensitive, fun and caring environment, the Boys & Girls Clubs offer youth a much-needed opportunity to develop a sense of belonging, usefulness, self-esteem and caring.
In celebration of National Boys & Girls Club Week and TFS' contribution, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Cedar Rapids and TFS hosted a “Spring Olympics Day” with fun competitive games, food and entertainment. As a special surprise, TFS provided prizes including X-Boxes, PSPs and backpacks for the kids. The event was free and open to the public. The event also served as an opportunity for parents, children and young adults to learn more about the Clubs' variety of after-school academic and life-skills programs.
Recognizing the need for after-school programming in other cities where TFS has a significant presence, TFS also announced $50,000 grants to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Baltimore (Maryland), and Chandler (Arizona). Additionally, TFS announced a continuation of its partnership with the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Los Angeles, providing the Clubs with $500,000.
